Coordinate or set up machines for product change

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to set up machines for production changes in a textiles, clothing and footwear (TCF) enterprise.

Application

This unit applies to the setting up of machines for production changes in a TCF enterprise where discretion and judgement may be required, for both self and others, in planning and selecting processes, procedures or outcomes.

Work may be conducted in small to large scale enterprises and may involve individual and team activities. Work is performed within defined procedures under direct supervision.

The unit is applied according to OHS and workplace practices of the enterprise, which may include:

requirements prescribed by legislation, awards, agreements and conditions of employment

standard operating procedures

work instructions

oral, written and visual communication

quality practices, including responsibility for maintenance of own work quality and contribution to quality improvement of team or section output

housekeeping

tasks related to environmental protection, waste disposal, pollution control and recycling

This unit requires the application of skills associated with problem solving, initiative and enterprise and planning and organising to ensure machine settings and operations achieve required specifications. Communication skills will be used to interpret product specifications, inform personnel and maintain records. Self management skills are used to ensure work meets quality and work standards.

1 Set machine/s

1.1 Product specifications are interpreted correctly in relation to machine setting requirements

1.2 Machine is set in accordance with product specifications, machine manufacturer instructions and OHS practices

2 Conduct sample runs

2.1 Material to be used for sampling is obtained

2.2 Machine is operated in accordance with manufacturer and workplace instructions to produce a specified sample

3 Organise sample quality testing

3.1 Sample is tested, or the test is organised, in accordance with workplace practices to ensure required standards of quality are met

4 Re-adjust machine settings to meet requirements

4.1 Test results are interpreted to determine adjustment requirements

4.2 Adjustment changes are assessed in accordance with product and machine specifications

4.3 Appropriate production personnel are informed of the availability of the newly set up machine in accordance with workplace practices

5 Maintain records

5.1 Records are maintained and reports prepared, where necessary, in accordance with workplace practices
